Climate change department reshuffle

Posted by: GreenCollar on Saturday, 27 February 2010

The Department of Climate Change is becoming the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd said on Friday.

“This move is designed to achieve stronger coordination and greater efficiency in the development and delivery of climate change policies and programs, especially in relation to energy efficiency and renewable energy,” Rudd said in a statement.

The reshuffle makes Senator Penny Wong Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water.  Energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, particularly for households and the community, have been added to her existent portfolio.

Greg Combet has been named Minister Assisting to Wong’s new department. He is taking on oversight and implementation of the wind-up of the Household Insulation Program and of the roll-out of the new household Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme.
