Neither party handling climate change: poll

Posted by: GreenCollar on Monday, 28 June 2010

Two-thirds of voters cannot say if they think Labor or the Coalition would be better at handling climate change, in the wake of the government shelving its emissions trading scheme.

Only 19 percent of Australians think Labor is better on climate change, according to an Auspoll survey commissioned by environmental and activist groups and the ACTU. That is the lowest level of support on the issue in 11 polls since March 2007. Some 15 percent said the Coalition would handle the issue better.

The poll found that 83 percent of voters were concerned that pollution was making climate change worse. Most believed the main parties were indistinguishable on the issue, including more than 80 percent of uncommitted voters.
