The latest expert estimates value the global carbon trading market at about $US 1 trillion by 2012, more than triple the $US 64 billion it was worth in 2007.

Based on the proposal outlined by the Green Paper (July 18, 2008), the estimated annual value of trade in Australian emissions could amount to as much as AUD $11 billion within the first few years of operations.
