International Development

GCS is led by seasoned managers with extensive experience in the fields of environment, natural resource management, climate change, carbon finance and international development. Our team is comprised of experts with extensive experience from non-governmental organisations as well as leading institutions such as the World Bank, UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, Global Environment Facility and African Union.

Key areas of work within international development include:

Policy, analysis and advisory services

The GCS team and our network of consultants have wide-ranging experience in international development fields, including advising governments, international development and financial organisations and the private sector in the development and implementation of climate change adaptation/mitigation strategies and environment and natural resource management programs. We have provided advisory services on the regulatory framework of the UNFCCC, UNCCD and the Kyoto Protocol and have advised on land management and forestry policy for projects in Asia-Pacific, Africa and South America.

Project development and implementation

We have worked on aid project development and implementation with civil society organisations, bilateral aid agencies, the private sector and international organisations such as the UN and World Bank. Recent projects include environmental assessments in Asia-Pacific; forestry and sustainable land management projects in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Africa and Australia; and facilitation of policy dialogue on sustainable land management and climate change alongside the last UNCCD COP.

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E)

Our team offers unmatched expertise in the design of project and program M&E toolkits and frameworks, including indicator development and data collection. Our staff has decades of experience in assessment, M&E, verification and natural resourcemanagement in agriculture, rangeland and forest ecosystems in Australia, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and Europe. This hasincluded work on socio-economic and biodiversity assessment, ecosystem processes, and wildlife and carbon management. Most current projects focus on forestry and soil carbon M&E in Asia-Pacific and Africa.

Capacity building

GCS strengthens the ability of organisations, communities and governments to function effectively and efficiently. Capacity building is integrated into all GCS programs and projects as a core principle. This is demonstrated by extensive capacity building in our forestry, agriculture and other land use (AFOLU) projects in Asia-Pacific and Africa.
